Woodcraft Demo Information
We have nothing new to report for our next demo. Beverely and Preston Vickery were not present with information. We are striving for a date in August, but we will report at the June meeting with further information.

Ask the experts
Jo Ann asked Harmon where he orders his small wooden parts Harmon stated Craftparts.com. a customer can either order online or walk in and
 Purchase items in store.

Cynthia was at a craft show and saw wooden boxes with designs on top which appeared like lightening.
We discussed the process but all expressed the danger of using electricity with liquid but agreed this process makes beautiful designs.

James Hunter asked how to make a pattern from a picture.  We all discussed different ways. Jo Ann  explained that she takes animal pictures, puts them on paper and just start cutting one line at a time, being careful to leave enough wood or segments which allows the picture to stay attached.

  1. Attach paper picture onto your wood of choice.
  2. Place several pieces of white card stock behind wood. THIS WHITE WILL BE YOUR FUTURE PATTERN--JUST DIG IN AND TRY.   It’s easier than you think.
  3. Place thin wood or cardboard on bottom
  4. I attach all pieces of wood and card stock with hot glue, and let that cool
  5. When I am making a pattern, I usually drill holes in one or two at a time so that I can gradually cut out the lines that will accent the cuts.

Just start with an animal picture or something simple.
I get good animal pics from CLIPART.

Brag Table

Russ brought several boxes that he made with various shapes. Very nice
He finished his projects with several coats of Laquear.  He said to heat water and let the laquear  warm up before using.  Cold laquear does not make for a nice finish

James Hunter showed off a Diana Thompson compound cut ornament.
He stores the ornament in the original wood cut out.  Very nice

David Borg
Celtic cross from cherry wood.  He had never used cherry wood and found it to be very hard.  After cutting the cross, David then carved the fretwork.
(2) David also showed a celtic pattern that was cut by a scrollsaw and he rounded the edges with a router.

GROVER showed us several small cars which were finished with poly wipe.

David Atkins   used ambrosia cedar to make a stand alone plaque of the fallen soldier
(2) He also brought 2 different clocks.
Jo Ann brought 4 examples for the 3 layered nativity Cut from different woods and in different sizes.

Faye—cut a picture of a girl that was self framed
(2) Teddy bear which was finished
(3) she cut a nativity scene from on  piece of wood
(4) Thank you for your service painted.  The paint makes the plaque show up

Demonstration

Harmon gave a very nice demo showing us how he used Steve Good’s key chain pattern maker. He explained his use of blue painter’s tape while setting his pattern up.

JUNE DEMO will be given by Jo Ann showing the pattern and her steps of cutting the three layered nativity.
